Day Trip Overview

Lake Chala, the most famous lake in Kilimanjaro, marks the border between Tanzania and Kenya on the eastern edge. It is a crater lake fed by groundwater that flows from Kilimanjaro. Depending on the time of year, its color ranges from deep blue to green and it is surrounded by a 100-meter-high crater rim. The surrounding area is fascinating due to its active nature, with abundant bird species, blue monkeys, baboons, colobus monkeys, and the best views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Itinerary

Around 10 am, you will depart from your hotel and drive to Lake Chala, a journey of approximately 2 hours. Upon arrival, you will complete park formalities before exploring this amazing lake formed by groundwater flowing from Mount Kilimanjaro. Depending on the time, you will enjoy a picnic lunch followed by swimming or taking photos of the various species in the area. After a long day of relaxation and enjoyment, your driver-guide will take you back to your hotel in Moshi.
