Trek Overview

Embark on a thrilling 4-day trek to the summit of Mount Meru, a dormant volcano offering stunning views of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscapes. This challenging yet rewarding adventure takes you through diverse ecosystems, from lush rainforests to alpine zones.

Itinerary

Day 1: Momella Gate (1,500m) to Miriakamba Hut (2,500m)

Distance: 6 km

Duration: 4 hours

Highlights: Rainforest trekking, diverse wildlife sightings (giraffes, warthogs, buffaloes, bushbucks, and various bird species)

After a scenic drive from Moshi, you'll start your trek through the lush rainforest. As you ascend, you'll encounter a variety of wildlife and breathtaking views.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut (2,500m) to Saddle Hut (3,500m)

Distance: 6 km

Duration: 3.5 hours

Highlights: Steep ascent, panoramic views of the Meru crater, ash cone, and Little Meru

Today's trek is more challenging as you ascend the steep ridge to Saddle Hut. The effort is rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the Meru crater and surrounding peaks.

Day 3: Saddle Hut (3,500m) to Summit (4,566m) and Descent to Miriakamba Hut (2,500m)

Distance: 18 km

Duration: 10 hours

Highlights: Summiting Mount Meru, breathtaking sunrise views of Kilimanjaro

Wake up before dawn for the final ascent to the summit. The challenging climb is rewarded with panoramic views of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding plains. After a well-deserved summit celebration, descend back to Miriakamba Hut.

Day 4: Miriakamba Hut (2,500m) to Momella Gate (1,500m)

Distance: 6 km

Duration: 4 hours

Highlights: Rainforest descent, wildlife sightings

Descend through the rainforest, enjoying the beautiful scenery and wildlife sightings. After reaching Momella Gate, you'll be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi.
