7 Days Calving Migration Safari

Safari Overview

The Great Wildebeest Calving Migration safari is specially designed to follow the Great Serengeti Wildebeest migration during the calving season from December to April. This safari covers the Lake Ndutu area, as well as the southern and central regions of Serengeti National Park, where the majority of the wildebeest are typically found. A visit to the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater is also included.

The southern Serengeti and Ndutu areas in Tanzania are prime locations in January, February, and March to witness thousands of wildebeest spread across the plains, grazing on the rich short grass. Predator activity is at its peak, with exciting sightings of cheetahs, lions, hyenas, and leopards, offering a good chance to witness adrenaline-packed hunts.

Day 4: Ndutu Area - Serengeti
  • Main Destination: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

  • Time in the park: Full day

Observe herds of wildebeest and zebras, especially from February to March when the majority of wildebeest calves are born. Continue game viewing while heading to Central/Eastern Serengeti for dinner and overnight.

The vast plains provide little cover, making young calves easy prey for predators. Wildebeest calves can run minutes after birth and within three days, they can keep up with the herd.

African Leopard: These reclusive predators are often seen in the Seronera region but are present throughout the park, with a population of around 1,000.

African Elephant: Herds are recovering from poaching lows in the 1980s and are primarily found in the northern regions of the park.

African Buffalo: Considered the most dangerous of the big five, they are known for ambushing hunters and causing fatalities.
