Trek Overview

The Marangu Route, also known as the "Coca-Cola Route," is the most popular route on Kilimanjaro. It offers a well-maintained trail with comfortable accommodations in mountain huts. While this route may be more crowded than others, it provides a classic Kilimanjaro experience.

Itinerary

Arrive in Tanzania

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in Moshi. Your guide will brief you about the trek and perform an equipment check to ensure you have all necessary gear. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 1: Marangu Gate (1,860m) to Mandara Hut (2,700m)

Distance: 8 km

Duration: 5 hours

Environment: Rainforest

After a scenic drive to Marangu Gate, you'll embark on your first day's hike through a lush rainforest. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the tropical environment as you ascend to Mandara Hut.

Day 2: Mandara Hut (2,700m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Distance: 12 km

Duration: 8 hours

Environment: Moorland

Today, you'll transition to the moorland zone, characterized by unique vegetation and stunning vistas. The trek to Horombo Hut offers opportunities to admire the changing landscape and capture breathtaking photos.

Day 3: Horombo Hut (3,720m) - Acclimatization Day

Spend an entire day at Horombo Hut to acclimate to the altitude. You have an option to take short hikes to nearby areas to support the acclimatization process.

Day 4: Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Kibo Hut (4,700m)

Distance: 9 km

Duration: 5 hours

Environment: Alpine Desert

Ascend through the alpine desert to Kibo Hut, the final camp before the summit attempt.

Day 5: Kibo Hut (4,700m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Distance: 22 km

Duration: 13 hours

Environment: Glacier/Moorland

This is the most challenging day, but the rewards are immense. You'll embark on a nighttime ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After witnessing a breathtaking sunrise, you'll descend to Horombo Hut.

Day 6: Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Marangu Gate (1,860m)

Distance: 20 km

Duration: 7 hours

Environment: Moorland/Rainforest

The final day involves a descend through diverse landscapes, including moorland and rainforest. Upon reaching Marangu Gate, you'll receive your summit certificate and celebrate your accomplishment.
