Safari Overview

This 10-day safari offers a fantastic way to experience the wildlife parks in northern Tanzania. You’ll visit Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, Empaakai Crater, Ndutu, and Serengeti National Park. Expect to see diverse landscapes and abundant wildlife throughout the journey.

Itinerary

Day 1: Tarangire National Park

Main Destination: Tarangire National Park

Driving time to the park: 4 hours

Time in the park: 8 hours

Meal: Full board accommodation

Leave your hotel at 06:00 am and transfer to Tarangire National Park via Arusha. The drive takes approximately 4 hours to reach the park gate. You’ll spend around 7 hours within the park, renowned for its large elephant population and giant baobab trees. Other animals like giraffes, antelopes, lions, and cheetahs can also be spotted. At 05:00 pm, you’ll leave the park and head to your camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Serengeti National Park

Time in the park: 6-8 hours

After breakfast, depart around 7:00 am and drive to Serengeti North, arriving around 10:00 am for a game drive in Northern Mara. The Serengeti is famous for the annual migration of over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras. Witness the dramatic river crossings as these animals plunge through crocodile-infested waters. The wildebeest produce over 8,000 calves daily before their 1,000 km (600-mile) migration begins again.

After breakfast, depart for a game drive in Serengeti North to witness the great migration. River crossings at Kogatende start in August, with game viewing at its best between August and October. Watch as herds cross the Mara River, following the rains and fresh grasses.

Day 4: Serengeti North (Kogatende)

After breakfast, continue with a full-day game drive in the Mara area. The Mara River is a key feature, offering chances to see herds crossing the river. This region boasts high resident wildlife numbers, with stunning landscapes of kopjes, woodland, riverine vegetation, and open plains.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park (Central Seronera)

After breakfast, drive to Serengeti Central, Tanzania's oldest and most popular national park. The Serengeti is known for its annual migration, but it also offers amazing game-viewing year-round, including herds of buffalo, elephants, giraffes, and various antelope species.

Day 6: Serengeti National Park (Central Seronera)

This half-day game drive offers another chance to see the Serengeti’s healthy resident wildlife population, including the "big five": lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos. After 6 hours in the park, start your journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Day 8: Walking Tour (Empakaai Crater)

A trek in the Empakaai Crater offers an amazing safari experience for adventurous trekkers. The crater is a collapsed volcanic caldera with a deep alkaline lake occupying about 75% of its floor. From the crater's rim, you can see Oldoinyo Lengai, Mount Kilimanjaro, and the Great Rift Valley. Wildlife includes bearded vultures, augur buzzards, blue monkeys, bushbucks, waterbucks, and buffaloes. Park rangers and a tour guide accompany the tour.

Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater Tour

Day 10: Lake Eyasi & Hadzabe Tribe

Driving back to Moshi/Airport: 4 hours

Lake Eyasi, a scenic soda lake, is located on the southern border of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Visit the Hadzabe tribe, an indigenous hunter-gatherer group, and learn about their way of life, animal tracking, and medicinal plants. You’ll also visit the Nilotic-speaking Datoga tribe. After the cultural activities, explore Lake Eyasi, where you can see wildlife and a variety of bird species. Later, drive back to the campsite or head to the airport for departure.
